Sinopsis

Con Picasso y Braque como pioneros, el cubismo se ha descrito como el primer movimiento artístico vanguardista del siglo xx. Inspirándose en el arte y la escultura africanos y amerindios, los cubistas desmontaron las convenciones europeas en lo tocante al punto de vista, la forma y la perspectiva, y crearon imágenes planas, fragmentadas y revolucionarias.

El célebre lienzo de Picasso Las señoritas de Aviñón suele considerarse la primera obra cubista, debido a su radical fractura de los objetos y las figuras en distintas áreas, correspondientes a múltiples puntos de vista. El cubismo evolucionó en dos tendencias diferenciadas: el cubismo analítico, que continuó entretejiendo los planos de perspectivas en tenues tonos negros, grises y ocres, y el posterior cubismo sintético, caracterizado por formas más simples, colores más vivos y elementos collage, como textos de periódicos.

Este libro presenta a los principales protagonistas del cubismo, con obras de artistas como Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, Juan Gris, Albert Gleizes y Robert Delaunay.
