Sinopsis



Anne Carson nació en Toronto (Canadá) en 1950. Poeta, ensayista, traductora y catedrática de estudios clásicos, ha dado clase en las universidades de McGill, Michigan y Princeton. Su tesis doctoral sobre Safo se publicó en 1986 con el título de Eros the Bittersweet. Desde entonces ha publicado varios volúmenes misceláneos de poemas y ensayos, entre ellos Glass, Irony and God (1992), Plainwater: Essays and Poetry (1995), Men in the Off Hours (Premio Griffin de poesía, 2000), The Beauty of the Husband (2001, Premio T.S. Eliot de poesía), Decreation. Poetry, Essays, Opera (2005) y NOX (2010). Ha reunido sus traducciones de Safo en el volumen If Not, Winter (2002). También ha traducido la Orestíada de Esquilo y varias obras de Eurípides (su versión de Ifigenia en Táuride es de 2014). Su novela en verso Autobiography of Red se publicó en 1998 con gran éxito crítico y comercial. Quince años más tarde, en 2013, vio la luz una segunda parte con el título de Red Doc. En España se han publicado hasta la fecha La belleza del marido (un ensayo narrativo en 29 tangos) (Lumen, 2003; trad. Ana Becciu), Hombres en sus horas libres (Pre-Textos, 2007; trad. Jordi Doce), Decreación (Vaso Roto, 2014; trad. Jeannette L. Clariond) y Eros: poética del deseo (Dioptrías, 2015; trad. Inmaculada Pérez Parra).
