Sinopsis

El presente volumen, que constituye al mismo tiempo una historia general y un ensayo crítico sobre el desarrollo y desarrollos del arte moderno, desde el clasicismo y el romanticismo francés hasta los años ochenta, se articula materialmente sobre dos grandes ejes: una síntesis histórica por períodos, con atención a las corr ientes y problemas centrales que los conforman, y un análisis pormenorizado de ciertas obras representativas de los artistas. Con este doble esfuerzo complementario Giulio Garlo Argan, uno de los mayores eruditos y pensadores -en materia de arte- de nuestro siglo, logra estructurar un modelo coherente en el que el debate sobre los problemas estéticos de nuestro tiempo constituye n un verdadero sistema conceptual.
